Had the sampler appetizer, it was greasy, tasteless and generally gross. The corn, crab and poblano soup was awful. My wife said it was edible, personally I thought it was disgusting. I had the tuna, which I enjoy in any restaurant I order it in. It was overcooked, definitely not fresh and came with a sauce that wasn't far off from the soup. All in all, the food was obviously not prepared fresh, and was a microwave heated, greasy mess. If you want slop at $15-$20 a plate this is the place. Oh and to top it off, we both felt nauseous about 20 mins later.

It's not what it used to be Ordered the steak fajitas. The portion was significantly smaller and the meat was tougher. Also ordered the Shrimp and Grits. It was cold and grits sub par. The only positives were that they had friendly service and great bar drinks. Top shelf margarita and Chardonnay were perfect. Overall ...it's an okay place. Maybe try them for lunch.

"Great for groups, social environment, good food". I was not extremely thrilled with this restaurant. The chips and guacamole sauce dip were great. I ordered the garden salad with fried oysters. Unfortunately, the oysters were not fresh and I ended up getting sick. Fortunately, the up-side was that it was kids eat free night, so my daughter go to eat free with my food purchase. I am not saying I will not try the place again, but I was seriously not impressed. There are other Tex-Mex places in the area that I am more excited to visit, so it will be awhile until I visit this place again. I go to a restaurant in hopes of having a great experience. It was pretty sad because for a lively place that this seemed to be, the servers were not overly friendly nor energetic... they seemed tired and not eager to be working. * Tex-Mex * Kids-Friendly * Group Friendly * Casual Get-Togethers * Kids Eat Free Tuesday Evenings *

The food was good but a little over priced. I had the crawfish and shrimp burrito. It was delicious but doesn't come with a side. We also had the guacamole. It was nice and fresh. For desert we had the bread pudding. Good and sweet but seemed like it just came out of the microwave. Overall it was good but a little over priced.

Have only been here for lunch; never for dinner or happy hour. No alcohol/margaritas sampled by me here yet. So this is a lunch review only---I find lunch busy and loud but the staff is professional and efficient---you can get in and out quickly so this is a great lunch place in that regard. When they first opened here I do not think they had a lunch menu---you order off the regular menu and your portions were huge---doggie bag time for lunch----thereafter, a "lunch" menu appeared with the standard offerings. I find the price to be a little more than what you receive however taste and flavor is top notch. Most of the time I order the steak fajitas---they give you a small plate and 2 or 3 tortillas which is not sufficient and makes it difficult to maneuver your fajita building. The steak is good however and their cajun flair is accomplished by providing some sort of garlic butter to accompany the fajitas.

I was in town for a few days and I stopped here for lunch. Better than ninfas!! I had the chicken enchilada and a chicken taco with charro beans and rice.. It was absolutely delicious!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could have brought some food back home with me!

I have never experienced the Cajun/Mexican fusion until today. I always thought it sounded a bit strange to be honest but it surprised me! We had a very friendly and knowledgeable server named Jared. I would recommend the shrimp and crawfish burrito, it was delicious. I'm always up to try something at least once so I would recommend you to do the same if you are near here.

Hostess was going to seat us at a dirty table that still had the last patron's receipt book on the table and tons of crushed chips on the floor. When we asked for a different table, the hostesses gave us negative non-verbals as though we were inconveniencing them. First impressions are very important. Although our waiter was nice and the food was ok, the negative service we first received from the host staff will prevent us from returning. Gig'em.

I've enjoyed coyote blues in my previous experiences, however, this time was different. My company had planned and reserved a room for a lunch party a week ago. The reservation was made months in advance. We had a large group (40-50), and we arrived at the time we reserved (12:30). Our room was not ready. As a large group waiting, we crammed ourselves into the bar and hostess area. The hostess was rude and at one time said to one of our party "um, could you like, not stand there?" We got to our room about 30 minutes late. The entire place, aside from us, was only filled to about 10% capacity. (So, not busy) it took a very long while to get a server to come give us chips and salsa.... Even longer after that for drink orders. Several of our group walked to the bar for a water or another drink. Finally a server came to take drink orders. Waited and waited again. A bartender came in with a huge tray of drinks, placed them in the corner, and left. Our server allowed the drinks to sit there for quite a while, many frozen drinks half melted by the time one of our staff got up to start distributing them herself. Eventually, server started taking our orders. We had pre set menus for our party printed on paper, so we just started circling our choices and passing our papers to shorten the process. Still didn't help a lot. An hour later, we started getting some entrees. I think we had two servers for our entire group. Still no one had come to check on our drinks. The food tasted pretty good. A few of our party had already left so I packed up their food and took it home with me, placed immediately in the fridge. A few hours later- complete GI distress. Communicated with several of my group who experienced the same. Fed the leftovers to my husband for dinner.... Same thing. Complete GI distress. Though the food tasted good and had good basic presentation, the lack of preparation, poor attitude of the hostess and servers, and lack of adequate staff to accommodate the group left me angry enough to get on yelp and loud cap them- absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. As for the GI issues, that's a big problem. Wont be back.

I feel they have dishes you can't get at other restaurants. I've always ordered the smoked duck tacos or the smoked duck quesadillas with the blueberry/raspberry chipotle sauce. The flavor is amazing. The meat with sweet fruit sauce is like Tex Mex meets Thanksgiving! The service isn't ever memorable good or bad.

The food that we had was delicious! I'm allergic to diary and they were able to accommodate me and create some off menu vegetable chimichangas which were absolutely delicious! I definitely cannot wait to go back.

Awful, dry, over-seasoned. Those are the adjectives that come to mind with this latest trip there. Their corn tortillas literally broke in half they were so dry and burned. Their flour tortillas were undercooked and hard. If you can't do that simple part right, close your doors. The fajitas were just okay, but were ruined by their sides. Don't try it, may be better off with a microwave meal at home.

Stopped in for lunch & had the smoked duck tacos which were exceptional, juicy, phenomenal. Service was prompt and friendly as well. I'll be thinking about those tacos for a while.

Coyote Blues is one of the recommendations that I found via Yelp and through a friend who lived in Lafayette before. Let's just say that Coyote Blues feels like a Chili's or a Buffalo Wild Wings, but in a subdued manor - at least the ambiance was anyway. I was staying nearby at the Radisson hotel and needed dinner on a brisk Thursday night, 01/09/14. It was about 8:30pm and it was either this place or TJ Ribs, also nearby as well. I am glad that I made the right decision. While the service was slowing down due to the restaurant closing at 10pm, it was still great to dine here and be alone with my thoughts - especially when you are going to run a marathon or two within the coming days. Gotta get the head straight along with fueling the body as well. Coyote Blues restaurant is located in Baton Rouge, off I-12 on South Acadian Thoroughway. The quietness of the restaurant gave me pause, but in a good way. I was escorted in and shown one of the booths, which was great. The server gave me time to select my drink, which I gotten a Heineken and a water before ordering my food. As aforementioned before, the service was slow, but fast enough where I got in and out of there in about an hour. I ultimately ordered the Angus Burger, which turned out to be pretty delicious and satisfying at the same time. The taste was soothing and downright great, as well as messy to boot. It came with a side of French fries, but I didn't get any dessert thereafter. I had been eyeing their white chocolate bread pudding on their menu, but it just wasn't in the cards. Coyote Blues restaurant has its own parking lot, although I walked it over from my hotel. Could've driven, but it didn't end up that way. They take credit cards, which was awesome, as always. The experience was nice and typical. I am glad that I stayed away from the dinner rush and had a quiet time here. The burger was cooked medium and I had A-1 sauce with my French fries. The combination of that with the beer was heavenly. Couldn't have it any other way. Overall, I would say that this place is typical of any fast food chain, although I would likened it to Chili's or Buffalo Wild Wings. Not sure if this place is a major chain or not, but who knows. The food here is typical, but sinfully good. Do yourself a favor and get on here. Support local! B

So for families, this place is very inexpensive! The taste of the food and the quality is great! We were going to go to Ninfa's but thought we would try Coyote. Been in Louisiana since March and only place for Mexican food that has been good was Ninfa's Originally from Texas here. Well I will say that Coyote is the best place we have been to in Louisiana. I had the spicy enchiladas with the charro beans and grits for 9.00 They were Awesome! One of my daughters had the cheese quesadilla for 2.00 with drink included! It was awesome! My other daughter had the enchiladas for 3.50 with drink included! It was awesome! And wife had the shrimp and grits for 12.00 And it was awesome! If you haven't been here, go try it. If you in from out of town and looking for a place to go and feel you got your monies worth..this is it!

Had the chargrilled fish topped with lump crabmeat and a chipotle cream sauce and grilled asparagus so tender and yummy ! The green dip is OMG !! Good food ! Fajitas are awesome ! Service is normal and it's a little loud but that don't bother me, I recommend this place.

The food here is pretty good for a fresh Mexican place. I had the soft shrimp tacos for my dinner; they were ok though the shrimp were very small and tasted like they were frozen and not local, which is a real shame what with our beautiful Louisiana gulf shrimp. On the other hand, the men's bathroom was absolutely gross. The walls around the sinks look like they had been wiped in several months. The urinals were disgusting; the walls above the urinals had boogers and crap all over. Additionally, the outside of the building looked terrible. The outside garbage can was overflowing with trash. The parking lot was filthy, with beer bottles and trash plainly visible. Kill y'all to sweep the parking lot every once in a while? And you can't help but wonder, if the outside of the restaurant (which really is the customer's first impression) and the restrooms are that dirty and no one is cleaning them, how clean can the kitchen possibly be? I probably will be taking my family elsewhere next time they're in the mood for fresh Mexican Hope y'all clean up ;)

I moved here 7 months ago from the great state of Texas, where we're known for our authentic Mexican food. I've been searching for a place to ease my Mexican cravings and this is the place! The shrimp fajitas are amazing and mouth watering. I actually went two weekends in a row!

We ordered fajitas for dinner. Before I ordered them I asked the waiter about the steak and chicken fajitas, which was when I was informed that the fajitas meat came PRE PACKAGED. The waiter actually told us this. This must be why the fajita meat texture was very tasteless, chewy and hard. The refried beans were liquid. The charro beans were nasty. The queso was good though.

It's upscale Mexican, which I think Baton Rouge lacks. The plates usually come out pretty cool looking, atleast the fajitas and tortilla soup do(which by the way is really good). The bar is a cool spot. Don't order a skinny margarita because it's basically tequila on the rocks. I was there the other day and sat bar side. The service was pretty bad. It wasn't up to par. When you sit restaurant side, service is better. I've had the crab cakes and they aren't tasty. The El Diablo quesadillas are delicious. The tilapia fish tacos are pretty good, albeit a little on the spicy side. I've also ordered the portobello mushroom fajitas. They are pretty good but are sometimes overcooked. Their free salsas are tasty. Overall, I'd recommend it. Just prepare to be there a while and pay a little more than usual for Mexican food.

Coyote Blues one of those places I go to every now and then, and I've enjoyed my experience every time. I'm not terribly adventurous when it comes to Tex-Mex - I know what I like and stick to it, and Coyote Blues doesn't disappoint on those items. First, the green dip that the bring out with the chips and salsa (some sort of guacamole-related dip) is great! Second, I am a huge fan of their Bushwacker and have at least one every time I go in there. Third, I really like their tacos. At first, I was on the fence about them since the ground meat has pieces of potato mixed it, but if you expect it to be in there, it is quite tasty. I haven't tried their desserts yet, but I plan to because they look delicious!

We used to have to drive to Lafayette to experience my favorite "Mexican" restaurant so I was ecstatic when they opened the Baton Rouge location. This is some of the most different, Louisiana inspired delicious Tex-Mex food I've had. I love everything I have tried so far and I try to order something different every time, but I have to admit, I have a really hard time of not ordering my fave, the crab neuvo enchiladas. They are so delicious, you will just have to take my word and try them. I always pair them with the corn succotash, another fantastic side and the cheese grits. I love the sauces that come with them and can never choose my favorite. I've never had a meal here that I did not thoroughly enjoy and was disappointed with. I would like to add they have said they were planning on charging for the now complimentary green sauce and I say we should start a revolt. The green sauce is such a treat and I love it and I know Ninfa's has the green sauce as well and I've never had to pay there so I am hoping they will continue in that tradition. If you have only one Mexican restaurant to try, this should definitely be the one.

Hubs & I ate here the other night. We both ate fajitas. Waiter was quick & attentive. No bell peppers in the fajita mix, just onions. This was my second time to eat here. Will eat here again when traveling through town. Prices are good for what you receive.

My family has been here quite a few times. Recently we went there after LSU graduation, not realizing they were closing in 20 minutes. We offered to come back at another time, but the staff insisted that we stay and treated us excellently. Our server Brian was very helpful, made good menu suggestions to my aging parents, kept our drinks full, and gave cheerful, friendly service. Kudos for excellent service and food!

Okay, so, we had to go to Gonzales for the outlet mall tonight and since we came this far I wanted to go to Trader Joes and rule of thumb is never go to the grocery hungry. This place is located almost literally right around the corner from Trader Joes. Nice building and the typical college employees. I saw when we walked in that it was happy hour until 9 on Mondays! Yay go me. Asked the server what was included and he told me happy hour ended at 3 or something like that. So, I told him the board says otherwise. He said he would go ask if I wanted him to... Well, yes, I surely would like you to. I was going to have a drink either way but why not two for one. So he comes back and says yes happy hour until 9pm and tells me what's included. I ordered the sangria. As I am waiting on my drinks and looking over the menu and notice my boyfriends menu is missing pages I start to wonder if we made the right choice by coming here... I hate when I get this feeling. Salsa is bland and the chips are nothing special. I didn't expect anything special after all it is a chain restaurant. We both ordered taco salads because we figured it's kinda hard to mess up a taco salad and I was starting to enter the *hangry* stage of hunger, having not eaten a single thing except diet coke all day if you count that. The reason this review gets 3stars was definitely for the taco salad. Would have been four of the hostess was spending less time on her phone and more time greeting customers hello and goodbye. (Pet peeve: if you can't say thank you and come again it really rubs me the wrong way). Anyways back to the salad... Pork carnitas was delicious! I was honestly shocked when I took my first bite. Food really good, almost worth price. Been twice though and disaffected disinterested staff really destroy the experience. They took more than half an hour to bring drinks despite place being empty and only coke or tea ordered. Took even longer just to take order. No smiles from any staff despite our friendly demeanor (they looked angry and/or hungover). Added 18% gratuity to our bill for table of 6 I won't return. Too bad though, food pretty good.

Ask for a side of liquid smoke, because there isn't enough all over the food. Oh, no, wait. I'm being completely sarcastic. Also, when I called they said they were able to accommodate lactose intolerant vegetarians with "plenty of options". By plenty they meant one side salad. The staff has been fine every time, though not always GREAT. It's a pretty good place for cheap margaritas at happy hour. Basically, go to another restaurant but if you end up here it's not the end of the world.

Horrible beyond words and HIDEOUSLY OVERPRICED. My pork "osso buco" had been cooked AT LEAST 2 days before it was served to me and was still cold in the middle as were my mashed potatoes and my MIL's cheese grits. The server was wonderful but then they brought me a "new" one that was the same one and told me the first one they brought me wasn't "finished cooking" so they LIED to me too. After a lifetime in the restaurant biz and 2 years at Le Cordon Bleu I know the difference between reheated meat and fresh. Then the manager came out and told me they had 3 managers on the cooking line so I politely told her she might want to consider putting COOKS in the kitchen because it would improve the food if CHEFS were doing the cooking instead of managers. They are on their way to being out of business if they keep serving cold leftovers at premium prices. Even McDonalds has fresh cooked food and $20 for a reheated pork knuckle with cold potatoes and nuked veggies is an insult. Avoid this place like the plague!!

This restaurant was so disappointing. We went with 3 kids and a party total of 8 on a Friday night. We fully expected a wait time and we pleased to find out from our hostess that is would only be 15 mins. Well that 15 mins turned into 2 hours. Had we known that we would have planned accordingly for the kids to have something to snack on however did not bother since we were told 15mins. When I asked the manager why we told told the wrong information she replied that WE should have KNOWN the wait would have been long because of our large party and with it being a Friday night. I ignored the manager's rudeness and unprofessional manner and hoped for a nice dining experience. That hope was lost when our waitress delivered the wrong size drinks and margaritas giving us larges when we ordered smalls. A PROFESSIONAL service team would have taken their own mistake on their own accord and compensated justly, however took our drinks out of our hand in mid-sip, and then charged the table for a large instead of a small even though it was their mistake. We were told by the runner that is would be free since the server made a mistake, only to be told by the manager that "nothing is for free". The food is ok, nothing special. It sure doesn't make us look over the terrible service and management. Finally at the end our our torturous dinner the server brought our tabs after 30mins of waiting. As we were leaving she started to cry accusing someone at our table of stealing $200. Now we are a middle age couples with children under 8 with a baby. We would never and do not need to steal any money from a waitress. I stayed behind to help the little server out. She later found that she misplaced the ticket with the money. I have never been so insulted in my life. If I could rate less than a 1 star I would.

Had the 20$ tuna plate with 4 asparagus and cheese grits. Super disappointed with this entrée. Also had the taco salad with grilled shrimp. The salad part was from a bag. The shrimp wasn't terrible. This was 16$ We also had the duck nachos. The duck tasted as it had been in the refrigerator for a bit. All in all we wasted 53$... our server was great though.

Everything seems greasy in this place. The shrimp fajita was floating in grease, more than the typical grease needed to make it sizzle but it's not that bad. What was awful was the spicy ground beef and refried beans. The ground beef felt and tasted over processed, almost like the beef you get in frozen burrito. The refried beans taste worse than what you get from the can. Even the rice was greasy in this place. The tortilla which should have nice since it had a home made feel (thicker than store bought tortilla) and tasted fresh was drenched in oil from ground beef so I was only able to eat part of it. Pro: the kids meal was nice size and really cheap. My 7 old really liked the cheese sauce over her bean and cheese burrito. We're not going back.

What a shame.... We ordered house margaritas with silver tequila and they tasted like cleaner. They were so bad that we ordered just sour to fix them. They were still bad. We ordered chicken and shrimp fajitas with no tomato. We let the server, Josh, know that my girlfriend is allergic to raw tomatos. Not 3 minutes later, the entree came back out with no tomatos. Josh told us that he requested that it was remade. Manager comes out and tells us that he simply replaced the chicken and did we need more veggies. My girlfriend had gone outside to place an order at Outback. I requested the check and we went across the street. Now I have to deal with an aggravated girlfriend for the rest of the night - thanks Coyote Blues.

Thoroughly enjoyed this place. My first time here and it was AWESOME!! I had the Shrimp and Crawfish Chimachanga with Poblana cheese corn grits. The food came out fast. I had heard this place was good, I'll have to try it several more times to make sure. :-).

Absolutely the best fajitas I have ever had.... Ate here twice in a row on a recent business trip. Great top shelf margaritas. The salsa was amazing.... Be sure to ask for the green sauce too--- tasted like a guacamole ranch sauce. Very well done.... We will look forward to our next trip!

Quickly becoming my favorite Mexican place in Baton Rouge. I became a fan at their Lafayette location, and was so glad they expanded to BR! The salsas both tomatillo and roja are worth the trip alone. Add the drink specials - two for one margaritas one or two times a week, $5 bloody marias (Bloody Mary with tequila) on Sunday, and the wonderful food, and what's not to love? My absolute favorite dish is the Crab Enchiladas. As much as I love to try new dishes, I cannot make myself switch at this place. This dish is that good. Crab crepes with 2 creamy sauces, one poblano type green sauce, and one red pepper sauce. You MUST (not really, but I strongly urge you to) get this dish with the poblano rice and the grits as these sides complement the creamy crab very well, and they are simply the best. I've also enjoyed their charro beans and their ceviche in the past, when my stomach/wallet will not allow me to indulge my Crab Enchilada addiction. My only knack is the service is spotty, specifically in the tables at the bar. My experience is they don't always know who's supposed to be waiting on who in that area, so you may want to sit at a regular table or at the actual bar.

The service is awful lately...not sure what happened. But it seems the food and drinks aren't that great either. This is about the last place I think of when I think mexican in Baton Rouge.

The crab enchiladas were good and fresh with plenty of flavor. The enchiladas could have been filled more, less sauce, and more salsa but that is a personal preference.

Me and my boyfriend went here for his little sister's birthday and I thought it was great! I had the corn and crabmeat chowder and taquitos. My only complaint was that the ends of my taquitos were empty, by a lot. Lots of extra tortilla on the end and in the enchilada my boyfriend had, the meat also contained potatoes as an extra filler. That could have at least been specified as he doesn't like potatoes. But food was great otherwise and waiter was very attentive with food and drinks!

Maybe it's a matter of taste preference, or something I am missing, but I don't get the appeal. Maybe it's the step or 2 away from typical texmex but just not that well done. There also seems to be a distinctive flavor (sort of a brick oven/chargrill) that is usually a good touch, but here it seems more like they're dashing Liquid Smoke onto everything. No atmosphere. Better than El Chico or Taco Bell, but maybe that kind of says it all - ?

First of all I am not a fan of Tex-Mex so I've left bias from my review. I've been here twice and the first time I did not like my food at all. However, it wasn't their fault as I ordered a meal that had too much sweet for my tastes. The second time I came, I stuck with the quesadilla and It was one of the best I've had in town and I've tried almost every Mexican restaurants quesadillas in town. Great service although the waiter spilled salsa on my lap trying to clear the table but it was kind of my fault. If you like the tex-mex, this place has a great atmosphere and good food. A bit on the pricey side for Mexican though.

Smokey meat! If you don't like smokey flavoring (like my dad) don't come here. I've only had the fajitas and they're top notch. They come on a cool raised hot plate and are sizzlin'. Very flavorful and lots of fixins to go with it. I also love that they give you salsa AND some sort of quac dip with your chips. I'll give 4 stars to anyone that keeps me supplied with 2 kinds of dippers... Their Dos Luna Margarita was pretty good too. They're cheapest during Happy Hour on Monday.

Deserves credit for a slightly varied Tex-Mex menu. Pleasant and efficient service. Perfectly nice if this were a roadside chain in central Illinois. I chose this for a lunch meeting due to the fact that it was extremely convenient for all involved. My taco salad with fajita chicken was uninspiring and seemed a little weak in the chicken department, although it also contained cheese and guacamole which was nice. I requested blue cheese dressing on the size and regretted it, as it turned out to be some bottled version of ranch dressing that may have had a few chunks of blue cheese tossed in. Pleasant, efficient service, quick lunch.

I have been here several times and normally it is enjoyable. The building is designed to be spacious and colorful. The menu explains that the food is their version of what would happen if Louisiana and Mexico were next door neighbors and the food cultures overlapped. Its a fair explanation.... I have had the crawfish chimi many times, and I really do like that dish. The sole problem I have with it is that it can be very heavy if eaten late in the day. So when we visited yesterday, I thought I would try something not quite so heavy...fajitas figured in at that point. One positive thing is I liked the presentation when the food came out. At most restaurants, fajitas seem to take up so much room with all the dishes needed to serve you but here you get the same food and it comes out stacked...it doesn't cover half the table! But flavor wise, it was not very good at all. The meat was SOOOOOOO dry and the smoky spicy flavor just overwhelmed in the wrong way. Even lathering on as much sour cream and guacamole as possible on the extra dry tortillas didn't work...the too-to-point-of-breaking dry tortillas sucked up every ounce of moisture and didn't cut it. The pico that came with the condiments for the fajitas had exactly three little chunks of tomato....which worked against adding more moisture. There was a little thimble of melted garlic butter with the meat ( I initially couldn't figure out why it was listed on the menu as an ingredient...first time for me!) which I figure out was supposed to give more moisture to the meat, but again...failure! It just achieved sliminess! I did eat all the meat because I was starving...but this is a dish to be avoided, and in the future I will not consider it! Stick to the crawfish chimi! Sundays is $2 domestic longneck beers from 2 PM to 7 PM...and I love the chips and salsa!

Stopped in late on a Saturday for our first visit. Based on the recommendation of the server, we ordered the duck quesadillas. They came out suspiciously quickly. They we overloaded with an incredibly sweet barbeque sauce (read: liquid smoke). Neither of us enjoyed it. As for the atmosphere, it was late so I understand it but being crowded, but the bar area is like eating in a barn. It's expansive and very boomy inside. The bright yellow walls are just not conducive to an inviting place to eat.

Went here on a Sunday night for dinner and margaritas with my roommate. The food is alright and a little overpriced (we each had quesadillas - I had the mushroom and spinach and she had the beef fajita one). They were good, but they could have given more guacamole on the side and at $10.50 and $12.50 a pop they weren't cheap! I loved the frozen mango margaritas with the sugared rim. Not the most authentic of margaritas, but tasty nonetheless! I will have to come back on Monday's for $1 margarita night, but I don't know if I'd come here for a meal again, though I do want to try to the fish tacos. I have nothing but the best things to say about the service though! Very attentive! Oh, and if this is important to you (which it should be) - they serve Louisiana Gulf shrimp!

  • Cindy C.

I went here for lunch and I ordered the grilled chicken tacos. Pretty typical lunch item but what made a difference was the sizzling platter it came out in! The sour cream, guacamole, finely shredded cheddar cheese, and other condiments came out in a very neat platter. Therefore, I had to make the tacos myself. I didn't mind since I like to determine how much I want in my taco. My friend ordered the tilapia tacos and they were delicious!!! There was a good portion of fish in the tacos and I will most likely order this the next time I come here. What made my experience even better was their service. The waiter was very attentive to our needs with a big smile on his face and he even gave me extra tortillas for my leftovers. A definite must try!

I went with a small group of friends and we ordered the fajitas and margaritas. Three of us decided to order and share the "beef fajitas for two" and the portions were so large that three of us couldn't even finish it. The beef was cooked perfectly and overall, I was happy with my fajitas. I can't forget to mention the delicious margaritas on the rocks! The best I've had in Baton Rouge so far.

We have eaten here five times in the last 8 months... every time has been pretty good service. We had a rough experience the last time we were there, but I think it was because of two things, Homecoming was going on, and the staff was overwhelmed, and our waitress was new! Usually I would give this place FOUR STARS, but this last time only 3. Great food, great taste, loud, so if it is an intimate dinner, not the place to go, fun and friends... a definite yes!

I was completely surprised when i found out that this place was a chain! It was a local chain but still a chain. I was very pleased with my entire experience. This restaurant was a decent size and it was packed! They did a good job keeping the flow of people moving efficiently. We were not waiting all that long before we had a table open up for us. First off our server and the manager were very cool. They figured out that we were from out of town and gave us all kinds of suggestion and tips of things to do in the area. Our server was very attentive, friendly and did a great job! We started out with the crab cakes. They were pecan crusted and drizzled with a mango sauce. It was delicious and a starter that was not too heavy at all. For my main course, I had smoked duck tacos. They were tasty!. They had a very good, smoky flavor. They were bordering on being a little too sweet. By the time I started my third taco, the sweetness was starting to get overpowering. I just had standard rice and beans as sides and they did the trick! We left feeling VERY stuffed and everything was very rich and very filling. When we are down in the area again, I am thinking that this is going to be a solid place to eat.

Man, I thought this place was GREAT. I went by myself on a Monday night, and the parking lot was crowded: after eating there, I understand why. I started with an order of guacamole that came with "pueblo" chips, or fried flour tortilla chips. The chips were really good on their own, but they were also good with the house salsas: a red one and a creamy cream one. For an entree, I had fish tacos, made with tilapia. They were flavored nicely and there was plenty of fish. Only issue - and it was very, very minor - was the jalapenos on the tacos. Jalapenos and fish don't really go together, but it's easy enough to pick them off. I substituted the grits souffle for the beans that usually come with the tacos, and I could eat those grits every day. They are better than dessert. My server was attentive and pleasant. I don't have a single complaint about this and I'll be back the next time I'm in town.

Went to the bar side of the restaurant today with raised expectations (was invited by someone who'd been before) and was less than impressed with the attention paid by the bartender. Excellent! Great Mexican fusion.... I had the chicken enchiladas and I (coming from So.Calif) have to admit they are the best. The best Mexican food in Baton Rouge by far! They do need to work on their table salsa.... not very flavorful. Staff was satisfactory....

We've loved the original location in Lafayette for years and years; so glad to see it come to Baton Rouge. The cuisine is not, by any stretch of the imagination, "Tex-Mex"; it is "Cajun-Mex". The dishes that Coyote Blues does well revolve around this theme - corn grits souffle, duck quesadilla, crawfish enchiladas, quail fajitas, shrimp crepes etc. Prices are on par with Ninfa's (traditional tex-mex, done okay, not great), and you can't get this cuisine anywhere else in the US. It is a bit noisy in the restaurant (tile floors, plaster walls, big rooms and lots of families and large groups all make their contribution to this), but we've always had fast, attentive service. When you go, whatever else you do, get the corn grits souffle. My personal favorites are: the Shrimp Crepes, Duck Quesadilla and the Crawfish Enchiladas.

I received my food with a hair in it! Ok that can happen anywhere but I decided not to eat afterward because everyone else would have been done by the time I got my food, not a problem. Then the manager comes out and has an attitude when I asked the restaurant to cover a $6 drink!! I paid for the drink but I will never go back. Rude staff and crappy service (they forgot an appetizer and needed to be reminded to bring out items multiple times). Food and margaritas everyone in our group agreed other Mexican places close by are far better (Ninfa's, Superior and La Caretta).. Save yourself a bad trip go elsewhere!

Tex Mex but with decent vegetarian options not entirely covered with cheese. Atmosphere is weird, a chain trying to pretend its something upscale? But service was good and food may be better than other local, "Mexican," options.

Overall, Coyote Blues is a pretty good restaurant. I had the Fajita Beef Chimichanga with Mexican Rice and Grits on the side. It was a gigantic amount of food, and it was very tasty. The service here is pretty good, too. My only complaint is the noise level in this place; it's very loud!

It was so tasty. Jeff had the chicken taco salad and his was good but mine was better. I just knew this place was gonna be a bust but I was pleasantly surprised. Price point was good too. Coke, two for one sangria and two taco salads was $35 before tip. If in the area again I would definitely swing in for that taco salad again.

This place really has potential to be a really awesome Mexican restaurant. But unfortunately; the service is greatly lacking. We got here at 12:00, and the time is not 12:27, and the waiter has only given us our drink orders only. Has not checked up on us, nor has the waiter given us napkins or the additional sauce he said he was going to give us. This is the third time I've had horrible service here. If you are planning on coming here, be ready for a LONG wait, and for the waiter to get your order wrong. The seating area is nice, and the meat is good, however, the service really ruins it for me. Not coming back. Given them too many chances to make it right.

Thoroughly enjoyed this place. My first time here and it was AWESOME!! I had the Shrimp and Crawfish Chimachanga with Poblana cheese corn grits. The food came out fast. I had heard this place was good, I'll have to try it several more times to make sure. :-).

Stopped to have an early dinner on a Friday night. Greater by a smile and Seated promptly. Our waiter was very attentive. Enjoyed a 2-1 margarita. It was good but not extra special. 2 entrees. Good meal, good atmosphere.

  • Emmy G.

It was eerily quiet for a restaurant at 5:30pm on a weeknight. I see the potential there but it's in a location that hasn't fared well in the past and is mostly a spot for travelers staying in the hotels nearby.

  • D M.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
